Our ultimate goal is to help you recognize danger, avoid danger, and defend yourself if necessary. All of our programs teach multiple levels of self-defense, various martial arts techniques, and skills based on safety principles such as the ABCs of Conflict Avoidance, your body’s natural weapons, and target areas for striking.
In self-defense training and in life, there are three types of people in this world: sheep, wolves, and sheepdogs. Sheep are the majority of the world. They are people who don’t want to cause trouble and are sometimes blinded to potential danger. Wolves are the people out to hurt others and cause trouble. Then there are sheepdogs who protect the sheep and confront the wolves.
By training in self-defense, you become a sheepdog to protect yourself and your loved ones.
Self-defense training teaches you to be in control, have an action plan, and react quickly and appropriately to any situation.
Imagine that a wolf was going to attack you in the next five days and this attack is to be the worst attack in your life, what would you do to prepare for it? What if you were attacked by a group of wolves? By training in self-defense at the University of Sidekicks, you will be better equipped to address these situations. Training is an investment in yourself and your family just as eating healthy is to your diet and wellness.
Krav Maga
At University of Sidekicks, our Krav Maga training is actual modern combat and self-defense experience for adults.
Krav Maga is one of the BEST self-defense systems in the world. Krav Maga (pronounced “Krahv Magah” and means “Contact Combat” in Hebrew) is the official self-defense and fighting system of Israel’s military, the Israeli Defense Forces. It is recognized as the most efficient self-defense system for real-life situations, emphasizing practical defenses against real attacks. Krav Maga is a modern and practical style of self-defense with drills focused daily on chaos, interference, distraction, 2nd and 3rd party scenarios, and more.
Classes can be indoors and outdoors with combative, defenses, holds, take downs, drills, scenarios, weapon retention, weapon defense, movement, ground training, cardio conditioning and more! The students work with a partner and in groups, using focus mitts, kick pads, heavy bags, and other various training aides.

Gracie Jiu-Jitsu
At University of Sidekicks, we teach Jiu-Jitsu as part of our integral GSDS. This gives students a complete and multi-dimensional ground game. Students are taught takedowns, takedown defense, key positions (side control, mount, taking the back, etc.) and a wide variety of submissions (chokes, holds, locks and joint manipulations). By making Jiu-Jitsu part of our system it gives students the ability to grip, handle, and absolutely control an opponent without the use of striking if not needed, thus effectively ending a fight while minimizing damage. With a large majority of fights ending up on the ground, it is not only practical but very important to be well-versed in Jiu-Jitsu.
The techniques taught in our classes apply the principles of leverage, allowing smaller individuals to gain an advantage and even defeat a larger opponent. The techniques are extremely effective, allowing for maximum results and immense success. Furthermore, our well rounded classes target an assortment of muscle groups, leading to an excellent full-body workout. In class, after a technique is taught, students are partnered up to drill it which can be likened to sparring on the ground. Timed specific grappling exercises build cardio endurance and strength, while enhancing techniques. Each of our styles in our Global Self Defense System provides unique benefits, giving our students a comprehensive knowledge of martial arts self-defense.
Master Nolte Jiu-Jitsu History:
Her first taste of Jiu-Jitsu took place in 1999 from Guy Metzger & Kathy Brothers from the Lions Den under direction of Ken Shamrock. From this experience she began training with mixed JiuJitsu systems and bringing the teachings to her Blinn College students in Brenham where she taught in the KINE department from 2000-2008. She began training in traditional Jiu-Jitsu with Gacie Barra under Chad Robichaux in the Woodlands, Texas in 2007. When his top Instructor Professor Chad Kight moved & opened Sugarland MMA she followed suit where later she began competing under his coaching and earned her Blue Belt. She incorporated his system under his direction with the Royce Gracie system. Master Nolte began to expand her diversity in Jiu-Jitsu again when she became a PPO (Personal Protection Officer) and held a license in the state of Virginia and Texas. She became a Affiliate of Pedro Sauer which went in line with teachings from the bodyguard industry that she represented. alongside her own personal growth in Jiu-Jitsu she was a Sub-Affiliate of his and offered Pedro Sauer Jiu-Jitsu as part of her program helping to grow and development Jiu-Jitsu in her community of BCS.
After a few years of traveling to Atlanta, GA earning several stripes on her belt and having been blessed and have trained with Professor Sauer several times including training with his lead Black Belt like Andre Galvao she found a closer Pedro Sauer Affiliate and began traveling to Louisiana to train under the direction of John Blunschi.
John later moved in the direction of Kron Gracie and she followed suit, she trained with more of the Gracie family, she's trained with Kron in both LA and CA. A decade and a half of traveling cross country Master Nolte was directed to meet Professor Rodrigo Pinheiro in San Antonio, TX where she trained for years, plus offered a RPBJJ program in her dojo. She has a 4th stripe Purple Belt under Rodrigo Pinheiro. She has trained with Royce, Kron, & Royler Gracie, She has trained with so many legends in Jiu_Jitusu & legends from the UFC with strong Jiu-Jitsu for almost 2 decades in workshops and seminars the list is on-going.
Master Nolte was asked to speak at the Girls In Gi's Board in Las Vegas, NV which was an honor alongside with Sophia McDermott Drysdale.
Because of COVID she decided to not offer a full Gracie Jiu-Jitsu classes any longer and as of May 2020 due to members having constant contact with one another. She felt doing her part to help slow/stop the spread it is best to minimize distance as best can be done in a contact class. She has shown her students how to make a training dummy and offered online video training and a at home training curriculum due to the stay at home order with business restrictions. Because her GSDS has always incorporated Jiu-Jitsu she made a decision to bring all of Jiu-Jitsu's best of the best to GSDS and it's been a widely supported and a appreciated move.
Renee Nolte is a Black Belt in Keysi
Keysi originated in Spain but popularity has grown immensely and now covers the globe. Keysi was not born or reinvented in the dojo; Keysi was born on the streets of Spain with gypsy origins. It has grown, developed, and matured on the streets, a direct consequence of real events, experiences, and subsequent years of investigation. Keysi is an amazing multi-dimensional journey into the world of self-discovery.
Keysi is an art form dedicated toward the study and investigation of survival on the modern day streets. It is in a state of constant evolution, never standing still and fueled by research and investigation. You must allow yourself to evolve and grow on a daily basis if you are to truly absorb the essence of Keysi and realize that Keysi lives in the blood and not in the collection of techniques.
What you will expect in Keysi training is shadowing boxing, focus mitt work, standing, ground, footwork, self-defense grabs, blocks, counters, take downs & weapons training. The system trains you in several scenarios such as being attacked outside, lying down, sitting down, standing, one or more attackers, shielding, blading, 360 movement, weapons and more. It also teaches to use your block as an offensive move to destroy the attack; this will be the fastest method to stop a continued threat from an extreme close range.
Renee Nolte is a KFM Black Belt, she is a Certified Keysi Instructor, a Master Instructor Black Grade.
